Allis-Chalmers Company was formed in 1901 as a consolidation of multiple companies primarily working in engines, compressors, and mining and milling equipment. In 1912, the company reorganized its efforts and became known as Allis-Chalmers Manufacturing Company and went on to manufacture its first farm tractors – the 10-18, the Model 6-12, and the Model 15-30 between 1914 and 1919.

In 1933, the company introduced its first row crop tractor, the Model WC, which would go on to be its best-selling tractor. In the 1950’s, Allis Chalmers acquired multiple companies to increase its product offering and manufacturing capabilities, but increased competition and aggregation later in the 1960’s and 70’s would spur financial struggles and the beginning of the company selling off key divisions to stay profitable.

In 1985, Allis-Chalmers sold the farm equipment division to KH Deutz AG of Germany, who five short years later, sold the brand to AGCO. While AGCO retired the Allis Chalmers brand in 1985, it still manufactures tractors and other farm equipment under the Challenger, Massey Ferguson, Fendt, and Valtra brand names.
