This week’s What’s It Worth? comes from Tyler L. out of Illinois. Tyler is considering selling or trading in his tractor — a 2011 John Deere 6430 with 2470 operating hours and a loader. Before he makes a decision, he wants to know what it’s worth to see what he might expect to receive if he sells at an upcoming auction or as a trade-in at his local dealership.
John Deere 6430 Auction Value
An analysis of the Tractor Zoom Pro database reports an average auction sale price of $48,158 based on 360 sale results for all John Deere 6430 utility tractors going back to September of 2008. Filtering down to those that are closer in age to Tyler’s model, we find that 6430s that were manufactured in 2011 have an increased average auction value of $63,969 based on 36 comparable sales.
Tyler’s 6430 has just a little over 2400 hours on it and he knows the used equipment market is hot right now, so he’s hoping the tight supply of late-model, lower hour tractors could help him catch a premium price for his equipment. For instance, just this past month, a similar 6430 loader tractor with a little under 1,500 hours fetched a price of $123,000 at auction!

Using that criteria, our average dealer list price adjusts to $69,019 (based on 30 comps) and if we filter further to only those 2011 lots that have been listed or sold in the last 90 days, the average dealer price increases to $73,690 (based on 11 comps). Tyler’s 6430 also comes with a loader attachment, so including that in our analysis of 2011 6430s sold in the last 90 days increases the average dealer list value to $90,448, however, this is based on only 2 comparable sales.
