During the initial years of the company’s tenure, Peterbilt largely manufactured the Model 364 for military service to support the country’s World War II efforts. With the end of the war came new innovations, more customer demand, and an iconic logo to support the brand. In 1953, the Peterbilt red oval logo was introduced and although the company would be acquired by Pacific Care & Foundry (PACAAR) just five years later, the Peterbilt name and red oval logo would remain the brand and visual identifier on every Peterbilt truck.

Key milestones in the history of Peterbilt include the introduction of the Model 358 and the bird hood ornament in the 1960’s, the opening of its state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Denton, Texas in 1980, and the launch of the Model 386 in the 2000’s, which was the first model recognized by the EPA as environmentally friendly and fuel efficient. Peterbilt has built a track record in innovation, and it continues to be proven today as they use advancements in technology to increase efficiency, reliability, and performance.
