In 1971, Joe MacDonald purchased Killbery Industries and the MacDon brand was born. While the company initially only served the Canadian market, it later expanded to the United States in 1986 to market products under the MacDon brand and establish a dealer network to sell and service its equipment. 1986 is also the year the company started manufacturing equipment for Case IH, John Deere, and Westward.

Some of the most notable product innovations from MacDon include the first flexible draper header for combines, the FlexDraper®, in 2003. The company would go on to continue enhancing this product with the introduction of the MacDon FD70 in 2007, the FD75 in 2013, and FD1 in 2017. In 2019, the company released its first ever corn header bringing its innovation and track record of excellence to another widely produced crop.
